Salt Lakers will be faced with tough decisions this week. The Salt Lake City School District will be asking to tax or not to tax, when it comes to raising property-tax revenue. That same night, the unincorporated Millcreek community will have another chance to air thoughts on incorporating into a full-blown city. For a respite from these taxing issues, don’t miss the Wildflower Festival, with proceeds helping benefit arts in the community.
Wasatch Wildflower Festival

The ski-resort community is inviting flower lovers to four days of festival that show off the beauty of local flora as well as the beauty of the mountains themselves. Organized in 1996 by the nonprofit Alta Community Enrichment that supports community arts events and opportunities, the festival this year will include group hikes, live music, kids’ activities, food and as always—flowers and fun. SLC School District Tax Hearing
Tuesday, Aug. 2
No one around these parts likes the “T” word, and that’s why the district is making sure locals have a chance to respond to a proposed Salt Lake City School District tax increase that would mean a $14.57 tax increase for a $250,000 residence and about $26.50 for the average $250,000 business. Millcreek Feasibility Study
Tuesday, Aug. 2
Residents of Millcreek Township are at a crossroads as to whether or not to remain a town or become a city. If they remain a town, taxes stay low for community members, but they may lack local representation in county government.
