This weekend offers the health conscious among us great opportunities to sweat for a cause. This weekend, celebrate diversity with the Anytown Getdown benefit dance party. You can also exercise your right to a safe society by taking part in Safe Zone training at the University of Utah and learn how to build a culture of inclusion and community with local LGBT Utahns. Later, roast a weenie and grill your elected representatives during the Utah Poverty Partnership’s meet-the-candidates barbecue.

Anytown Getdown
Friday, July 8
The Inclusion Center at Westminster College works tirelessly to help Utahns unlearn biases against their fellow community members. You can help this noble mission and get down for diversity at the same time. The Anytown Getdown is a dance party featuring the DJ prowess of special guest StankBot Tyranny. Shaking it for a cause will only cost you $10 at the door.
Westminster College, Main Plaza, 1840 S. 1300 East, 801-832-3260, July 8, 7 p.m., InclusionCenter.org

Meet the Candidates Barbecue

The Utah Poverty Partnership will be grilling dogs and burgers at its meet-the-candidates barbecue, where patrons can also grill elected representatives and other officials on what they’re doing to help Utah’s low-income population. This year’s event will include free grub as well as a short satire on how Utah’s slash-happy federal representatives deal with the national budget.
Liberty Park, 600 E. 1300 South, 801-364-7765, July 12, 6-8 p.m., AntiHunger.net/Events
