Health & Human Services, Paws & Claws Benefit & Welcome to Winter Kickoff & Dance Party

By Eric S. Peterson
Posted // November 17,2010 - It’s getting to be that time of the year when legislators start checking their list of government services that have been naughty and nice to see which ones will have a happy new year in 2011. To get a taste of that process, stop by the Health & Human Services interim meeting. Later, you can attend a Holiday Gift Bazaar to benefit retired research animals or, for the snow enthusiasts, there’s an arts performance at an Alta-based community-arts nonprofit.

If there’s one thing the government doesn’t like to pay for, it’s human services. That said, if you receive government services and/or are human, you may want to check in on this meeting, which will feature a budget review, an audit of numerous county health programs, a pain medication study, a report from the Children’s Health Insurance Program about at-risk clients, a discussion on preventing Medicaid fraud and much more.
Utah Capitol, 350 N. State, Room 210, Senate Building, Nov. 18, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Every dog has its day—or, at least, it should, especially if the dog was previously a research animal. Those animals often depend on kind-hearted folks to support programs to place them in loving homes. You can help support their placement by shopping at the Paws & Claws holiday bazaar, which will feature artisan crafts, a bake sale, a raffle and a lineup of current animals up for adoption.

Welcome to Winter Kickoff & Dance Party
Thursday, Nov. 18

The Alta Community Enrichment nonprofit is welcoming snow with its annual gallery and dance party. Support the organization’s community-arts outreach and education efforts by enjoying the works of local photographers and cinematographers paying homage to the area’s beautiful snow. The event will feature a winter-themed BYOB dance party immediately following the presentation.
