Spring has just about sprung, which means it’s time to bust out the running shoes and sprint your way to city hall to help shape the future character of the city, including learning about urban farming proposals, rules about solar panels on historic buildings, and transportation plans for the urban core. Before that civic heavy lifting, you can do an actual run in a charity 5K to raise funds for cancer research and international-relief efforts.

Running for Relief: Saturday, April 10
Time to hoof it for a cause at the Christ United Methodist Church’s “Running for Relief” charity 5K. The race winds throughout the Millcreek area on a U.S. Track and Field certified course. Proceeds support the Huntsman Cancer Foundation’s research, Haiti relief efforts and the Central Asian Institute’s mission of providing community education for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E. 3300 South, April 10, 9 a.m., 801-486-5473, ChristUMCUtah.net

Historic Landmark Commission: Monday, April 12
The landmark commission will take public comment on new rules for urban farming and alternative-energy-collection devices. If you’ve been meaning to green up your home or farm with solar panels, greenhouses, hoop houses or other green gadgetry, then check out this meeting. Salt Lake City & County Building, 451 S. State, Room 315, April 12, 5:45 p.m., 801-535-6188, SLCGov.com

Transportation Advisory Board: Monday, April 12
The Transportation Advisory Board has a full slate of issues dealing with walkable communities and transportation efficiency. Hear updates on the upcoming Bike Summit, charging stations for green vehicles and find out about detours during the North Temple Viaduct construction. Transportation Division Office, 349 S. 200 East, Suite 450, April 12, 4 p.m., 801-535-6630
