Flicks in Pieces Oct. 6 2009: Unhappy Endings

By Scott Renshaw
Posted // October 6,2009 - “Flicks in Pieces” is a regular feature that looks not at entire movies, but at the parts of those movies that can sometimes make us love or hate them.

FLICKS IN PIECES 10/6/2009: Unhappy Endings

It’s happened to all of us at one time or another: You’re watching a movie, maybe even enjoying it, and along comes an ending so monumentally stupid, preposterous or otherwise unsatisfying that you want to hurl something at the screen. That’s right, M. Night Shyamalan, I’m looking at you.

So what movie endings left you the most frustrated or disappointed?

Anything with a robot that turns into a delivery truck. Anything where Madonna is still alive at the end. Anything with Tom Hanks like Saving Private Ryan or Cast Away. Anything by M. Night Shyamalan since Signs.

Magnolia's anti-climatic frog storm. I sat through three-plus hours for that?

Titanic. And whadya know it was on last night again.

So, what was all that crap about her never leaving Jack--who was freezing in the ocean--"I'll never let go" or something like that. Then she does. If I were Jack i'd be pissed.

The Academy Award for the world's worst movie ending goes to I Know Who Killed Me. I actually didn't mind that movie until I saw the ending.

And I was like, "No freaking way. That CANNOT be the answer to the mystery. That CANNOT be that man's motivation." It was completely ridiculous and an incredibly lazy call by the filmmakers. It made me embarrassed for Lindsay Lohan that she made that movie.
