Scandinavian Heritage Festival

May 21-23

Posted // May 20,2009 -

Thanks to the LDS Church’s extraordinarily successful missionary efforts in Scandinavia in the 19th century, well over half a million Utahns can trace their ancestry back to Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland. All those “-sens” and “dottirs” of the Low Countries get to celebrate that heritage every year at Snow College in Ephraim—along with those of every other possible ancestry.

The three-day event traditionally begins with the Heritage Conference on Thursday, but the real festivities kick off on Friday. A gourmet Scandinavian smorgasbord is served on Friday evening, while the festival grounds on the north side of the campus are packed with entertainment, food, storytelling and crafts, among other delights. Join storyteller Rachel Hedman as she keeps the oral tradition alive with tales of Norse gods. Let your Swede emotion—or Norse, Danish or Icelandic emotion—run wild.
