The Sugar Bean Sisters

April 30-May 16

“Spinster”—that loaded, pitying description of a woman “of a certain age” who has never been to the altar. In Nathan Sander’s bizarre comedy, it’s the kind of fate that can lead women to irrational decisions—like hoping to be abducted by aliens or considering converting to Mormonism.

Faye and Willie Mae Nettle are too such sad souls, living together in a Florida swamp and making the occasional visit to Disney World. But on the 25th anniversary of what Faye is convinced was a flying-saucer sighting, the Nettles are about to face a radical change in their point of view. Have zombies walked their family land? What secrets are carried by a woman who may be part-bird, or part-reptile, or at the very least not all-woman? Wasatch Theatre Company presents the off-Broadway hit, in which extraterrestrials may be our heroines’ last, best hope for “normal.”

The Sugar Bean Sisters @ Rose Wagner Studio Theatre, 138 W. 300 South, 801-355- 2787, April 30–May 16. WasatchTheatre.com
