End Days

April 3–26

By Scott Renshaw
Posted // April 1,2009 -

If you are a playwright dealing with a subject like an American family’s response to the events of 9/11, it is important to be extremely serious. And consequently, you must seriously consider including in your work kitchen visitations from Jesus, a teenager with a penchant for dressing like Elvis, and physicist Stephen Hawking as a romantic mentor.

Deborah Zoe Laufer’s End Days takes a chance on bringing dark, quirky comedy to a group of people wallowing in their apocalyptic fears. Salt Lake Acting Company’s production pairs familiar veteran actors like Colleen Baum and Paul Kiernan with University of Utah students Daniel Lara and Marin Kohler, in their first professional show. It’s a chance to explore the psychology of anxiety—and the quest for optimism—with a smile. Join the Sunday, April 5 matinee performance for a post-play discussion, and get a first look at SLAC’s 2009-2010 season lineup.
