Tangram puzzle pieces. PVC pipes. These can be the stuff of dance performance—and in one eclectic evening, you get a chance to experience both of these and more.
Weber State University’s Department of Performing Arts presents an evening of works choreographed by family members, in addition to the senior thesis choreography of graduating student Josie Patterson. Erik Stern’s “Tangrammar” makes use of the aforementioned geometric shapes, while his “Shadowed Flight” (pictured) employs pipes and string as ways to mold the space between dancers. Patterson presents two of her own pieces—“Why I Am” and “Essay on Humility”—in addition to performing “Tangrammar” and Stern’s “The Fine Line” as part of the student group Moving Company. Works by faculty members Amanda Sowerby and Sara Picket complete a fascinating program of physical art.
