You could think of Plan-B Theatre Company’s production of Wallace as one play about two men. Or you could think of it as two plays, each about one man. Or you could just go see it and find out how these two parts become one whole.
Playwrights Debora Threedy and Jennifer Nii take on the challenge of exploring two unique Utahns through their lives and their writings, while director Jerry Rapier merges them. Threedy’s Where I Come From is the story of Western author Wallace Stegner; Nii’s Fire! tells of Wallace Thurman, a gay black man who moved from Salt Lake City to the heart of the 1920s Harlem Renaissance. Both men were defined both by where they came from and where they chose to call home.
These two stories connect not just with each other, but with several other theatrical, literary and visual arts events in the local community, including the annual Stegner Symposium and the Edward Lewis Black Theatre Festival. This play can be just the beginning of your explorations.
