In response to “Gone Baby Gone” [April 30, City Weekly], I am a grandmother in Utah who is losing custody of my precious grandchild.
The current practices in some of the Utah Division of Child and Family Services offices is appalling. The state, which had never been to my home prior to taking my granddaughter, put her in an adoptive home without giving me a chance to turn in paperwork for custody, even though I asked for four to six weeks in which to gain legal custody.
One reason given was that $1,800 per month is not enough to support four people. Nobody bothered to check if the child had any eligible relatives.
Where are this baby’s basic civil rights? Who is getting what for this human being?
