Beer Fest Not Family Friendly

By City Weekly Readers
Posted // August 29,2012 -

I went to City Weekly’s Utah Beer Festival at the Gallivan Center with my wife and 2-1/2-year-old boy in hopes of seeing some of my brewer friends who haven’t met my family yet. When I bought my wife’s ticket at the event, nobody said anything about my son, whom I was holding at the time, but at the gate, I was informed that children were not allowed. I know in the past, children have been allowed. [Editor’s note: This is incorrect. Children have not been admitted to previous Utah Beer Festivals.]

I saw no mention on any advertising that it was a 21-and-over event, and that information is not on the main page for the festival where I checked to find the hours. I think in the future, I will avoid the festival and take the time to go visit my friends at their breweries. Had I known there were no children allowed, I would have done something different Sunday afternoon and spent the money I wasted on some good microbrews from the store.

Seriously?  You need to be told a kid isn't allowed at a Beer Fest?  Wow.   The problem isn't with this event (which should be applauded) but with so many other non kid places where they are allowed.   People need to keep their kids away from adult places.   Period.   As always, awesome to hear about morons breeding.   (Please note sarcasm in last sentence. )

how did you waste money on NOT getting into a festival?  idiot.   it's a BEER FESTIVAL and you had no clue, really?  please send your kid to a good school and pray he doesn't grow up as stupid as you did.

What an absolute moron.   I commend any establishment owner or event organizer who denies him and his progeny entry.

really? How dumb do you have to be to not realize beerfest is an adults only event? Probably the same kind of person who wants to take their kid to a bar thinking it's ok. sheesh, why don't we have a license to have kids?
