Mitt Romney Is Dangerous

By City Weekly Readers
Posted // May 30,2012 -

God created man in his own image. And Mitt Romney spake, saying, “Corporations are people, too.”

Mormons have a unique concept of what constitutes a person. Everyone, regardless of creed, color or political party, is a spirit child of God. People are eternal beings, continually progressing toward perfection. As persons are, God once was, and as God is, persons may become.

Romney believes that “corporations are people, too.” Not surprisingly, corporations are Romney’s biggest financiers and have poured millions of dollars into his campaign. In reality, corporations have no share in God’s kingdom.

To Mormons, the U.S. Constitution is a document inspired by God to protect the liberties of American citizens from intrusive government activities. Joseph Smith, the founder of the LDS Church, prophesized that, in the last days, personal liberties would be under attack in America and described the Constitution as “hanging by a thread.”

Romney wants to snip that thread. He supports the intrusive Patriot Act and the National Defense Authorization Act that was signed into law on Jan. 1, 2012. By endorsing the NDAA, Romney is admittedly in favor of giving the military the authority to arrest Americans, and detain them indefinitely without legal representation. He’s also in favor of re-instating the heinous torture technique of waterboarding to extract information from detainees deemed enemies of the state.

Mormons were once considered to be enemies of the state, and when history repeats, will again find themselves under governmental scrutiny.

International sovereignty was a topic of major concern to Smith, who, while running for president of the United States in 1844, proclaimed: “I will adopt in part the language of Mr. Madison’s inaugural address, ‘To cherish peace and friendly intercourse with all nations … to maintain sincere neutrality toward belligerent nations; to prefer in all cases amicable discussion and reasonable accommodation of intrigues and foreign partialities, so degrading to all countries, and so baneful to free ones ...’”

Smith’s views of national sovereignty are in direct opposition to those of Romney, whose pro-war rhetoric toward Iran is putting the United States at risk. Iran is taking Romney’s threats of crippling sanctions, espionage, regime change and pre-emptive attacks seriously.

Mormons should consider this situation from Iran’s perspective. How would we react if a proclaimed enemy were threatening us with regime change? A golden-rule policy would be to do unto Iran as we would have Iran do unto us.

Romney is dangerous to our nation and the freedoms we enjoy. His lack of regard for humanity should be a serious concern to Mormons. Therefore, we should not support him.

Smith would vote for Ron Paul. How about you?

Corporations ARE people. I have started a corporation my very own little self and I have no doubt that is what Romney meant when he said that.

I do some contract work for two friends who created an $80M corporation. First they were just kids from Idaho who went to college, got degrees in business (not required - I don't have a degree) then they got an idea for a business and turned it into a corporation. They are very wealthy people now. ANYBODY CAN DO IT!!

My brother-in-law was raised impoverished in Mexico, came to the USA (legally), became a citizen of the US and started not one but TWO corporations (that I know of...). Those corporations made him very wealthy.

My son-in-law was raised in a South American country in total poverty. SAME STORY!!

To anybody who tears about his comment that corporations are people, think about what I just said. ANYBODY CAN start a business and create a corporation - ain't America GREAT!??

Romney is a chameleon. Once he is in office we can mold him into whatever we need to. If the American people wishes him to be more Liberterian, he will probably accomodate that wish. Unfortunately, more people aren't.
