License, Please

By City Weekly Readers
Posted // April 26,2011 - I’m sure that people who drive have noticed there are more bike riders on the road as it gets warmer. I have a couple of questions:

1. Do bike riders have to license their bicycles? When I was a kid, we were required to take our bikes to the local fire station and pay a small fee to get a license tag that was attached to our bikes. (Some revenue for the city, lots of riders on the streets).

2. If I have to take a written test as well as an ability test to drive my motorcycle or car on the road, why don’t bicyclists? It would raise a lot of money for the state, which is said to be strapped for cash, and it would be a source of money in tickets for unlicensed riders. (That is, of course, if the police were to enforce the laws).

3. Why do I pay a fee to use Millcreek Canyon and the bicyclers use it for free? Most of the problems in the canyon are caused by the bike riders. If you need proof of this, just ask the people who take the fees at the bottom of the canyon.

These are just some questions that I’m sure the bike riders who seem to think they are entitled and above the laws that apply to other people will have a rebuttal.

One last question: Do you think that our present mayor would propose this? LOL.
