Who Drinks Wine With Sushi?

By City Weekly Readers
Posted // January 11,2011 -

Who drinks wine at a sushi bar [“South Fish, North Fish,” Jan. 6, City Weekly]? You drink Japanese beer or sake. Osaka has great sake and Japanese beer, but even a wino like me has never thought about ordering wine to go with sushi (maybe I’m weird).

Same with Indian restaurants. You order Indian beer or tea, but never wine. My favorite Indian restaurant is Layton’s Taste of India, but its wine selection is terrible—other than it is cheap; it’s one of the few places where you can still get a $4.50 glass of wine. But since I’m truly a wino at heart (except in a sushi restaurant),

I will order their $4.50 merlot and keep telling myself you get what you pay for.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I don't stop drinking wine because I am having sushi, or Indian. Where did you even come up with such a rule? Yes, you are right! You are weird!

You'll enjoy life more if you don't confine yourself to silly, meaningless rules. Try a chilled glass of savignon blanc with that sashimi. You'll see that it tastes as great with sashimi as with steamed mussels or poached salmon.

I know you can do this because you've already admitted to drinking merlot with Indian food instead of a nice, cold Taj or Kingfisher. If you can do that, you can do anything.
