Dear John
A good-lookin’ soldier (Channing Tatum) falls in love with a good-lookin’ college student (Amanda Seyfried)—then a nasty ol’ war tears them apart. Can their love stand the test of time? Have you never seen one of these movies? (Sony)

Leverage: Season 2
The coolest series on TNT (Men of a Certain Age can suck it) goes slightly weirder and darker in Season 2, when Nate Ford’s (Timothy Hutton) team of thieves take on evil bankers, fashionistas and that one villain guy from every other series. (TNT)

The Road
The feel-good hit of the season! A father (Viggo Mortensen) and son struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic America overrun with cannibals and Juggalos. A harrowing tale of love, faith and dramatic facial hair. (Sony)

Royal Pains: Season 1
A jobless Manhattan doctor (Mark Feuerstein) and his hustler brother (Paulo Costanzo) crash a party in the Hamptons, only to wind up with a concierge-medic gig and a cable series. Good, light fun—just don’t think about it too hard. (USA Network)

True Blood: Season 2
The second season of HBO’s Southern-fried vampires ‘n’ rednecks soap tops the first in blood, sex and drama, introducing more new monsters, subplots and nudity (go, HBO!) than ever before. If you love Twilight … well, sorry. (HBO)
