The Way It Is: Tax attorney David Lyon

In the Salt Lake City mayor’s race, candidates seem to be trying to make themselves more like outgoing Mayor Rocky Anderson or distancing themselves from his faults. City Weekly asked tax attorney David Lyon—not a resident of Salt Lake City—what a candidate should do to fill Rocky’s shoes:

Despite Anderson’s bombast and political grandstanding, he is intelligent and has been a good mayor. I’d rather have the next mayor be like him minus the bombast. The best candidate would leave partisanship behind and get things done. But Rocky’s ambitious and sometimes over-the-top stance on certain issues has changed a lot of perceptions about this city. He sees this city as green, tolerant and livable. Whoever wants to be the next mayor had better be passionate and driven about making this the best place possible.
