Find thrills & chills at local waterparks & public pools

By Colin Wolf
Posted // June 5,2013 - If this summer will be anything like the last, we’re in for a scorcher. Luckily, Utah doesn’t skimp on great places to cool off and get all splishy-splashy. Here’s a rundown of a few of our favorite spots to find aquatic thrills, as well as refresh and chill out.

WATERPARKS

Seven Peaks (Provo)
The largest waterpark in Utah features a 500,000 gallon wave pool, a lazy river, and 16 water slides, including the 75-foot-tall Lazer’s Edge flume slide. It also has plenty of options for the little kids, like the 24-inch-deep Tadpole Pool, which has a gigantic smushy crocodile to climb around on. Location: 1330 E. 300 North, Provo, 801-377-4386
. Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., closed Sunday. Price: Passes for people over 48 inches are $24.95, under 48 inches $19.95. SevenPeaks.com

Lagoon-A-Beach
Located inside Lagoon Amusement Park—and included in the pass price—this classic water park has plenty of character and six acres of water fun, including 10 slides, tubes and drops. Check out the speedy Back Door slide, which is right next to the appropriately named Sea Snake tube slide. Hours: Sundays-Thursdays 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Location: 375 Lagoon Drive, Farmington, 801-451-8000. Price: Passes for people over 50 inches are $49.95, below 50 inches $29.95. Bring a Coke can to save $5 on admission. LagoonPark.com

Cowabunga Bay
If you’ve driven to the Point of the Mountain on Interstate 15, you’ve probably spotted this colorful water park, which resembles a contraption from the board game Mouse Trap. Cowabunga Bay has 11 slides to choose from, a Cowabunga Kids Cove for young’uns and the zero-depth-entry Cowabunga Beach, which features 2,500 square feet of chlorinated shoreline fun. Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Location: 12047 S. State, 801-553-100. Price: Day passes for people above 48 inches are $22.95, under 48 inches $17.95. CowabungaBay.com

Cherry Hill
This Kaysville amusement park is packed with a little bit of everything. For the thrill-seekers, there’s Cardiac Canyon River Run, a tube slide load with drops and waterfalls; the Pirates Cove activity pool for the kiddies, which features a sunken pirate ship with mermaids and pirates; and the classic Giant’s Gulch Lazy River, with exploding water barrels around every turn. Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: 1275 S. Main, Kaysville, 801-451-5373. Price: Kids 4 and under $7, all-day splash pass $18. Cherry-Hill.com

PUBLIC POOLS

City of Orem Scera Pool
This public pool is massive. In a nutshell, there are two huge water slides, a 75,000-square-foot lap pool and dive tank, and a wet & wild water playground with interactive games for the guppies. Lindon Aquatic Center
The 45-minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City pays off with an ocean-size leisure pool with beach entry, a sunken pirate ship, lazy river, water slide, wading pool and even an outdoor, never-ending, surf-able wave called the FlowRider for those of you who like to get tubular.
