It’s common bar knowledge that Fat’s Grill & Pool (2182 S. Highland Drive) is one of Salt Lake City’s preferred spots for pool sharks—it’s won Best Pool Joint in City Weekly’s Best of Utah 13 years in a row. But this neighborhood spot is more than just a great place to rack your balls. For the unfamiliar, every Friday and Saturday, Fat’s opens its downstairs concert hall to live music of just about every make and model. This Friday, the golden-era rock & rollers Dizzy Desato will take the stage to play original tunes and cover classic artists like Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and Elvis. Then on Saturday, shake your booty to the local jam-blues-funk group Marinade. If you need to party on the cheap, show up early for the half-price appetizers, served from 4 to 7 p.m. every day, and be sure to crush plenty of $1 PBRs and $3 well drinks.

The Jalapeños make the burger! The burger makes you thirstier! Playing some stick burns it all off!
