This Japanese restaurant in the space of the old Mikado is visually lively, with splashes of lime green everywhere, granitetopped tables and gorgeous modern-looking tatami rooms which occupy one side of the restaurant. The low-slung rectangular cushions look ready-made for an orgy—well, an orgy of sushi perhaps. Buddha Bar-style music permeates. Naked Fish offers the routine assortment of maki rolls like spider, playboy, Philly, caterpillar, funky and rainbow, along with some unique ones like the Spicy Jin Jin. It combines spiced tuna with crunchy tempura jalapeños topped with a sweet soy glaze. The result is an appealing yin and yang of sweet and fiery flavors. We also enjoyed the deep-fried calamari nestled into a shell of fried wonton wrappers, where the big chunks of calamari were surprisingly delicate and tender.
