Odyssey Dance Theatre: Shut Up & Dance

Thursday March 10-Saturday March 19 @ Kingsbury Hall

Odyssey dancers are back for their 17th annual spring series of Shut Up and Dance. As is tradition with past performances, dancers will put their own spin on the Shakespearean classic Romeo Juliet as they take the iconic pair of lovers into the world of hip-hop. Having a hard time imagining this classic performed in modern-day hip-hop style? Rest assured that the choreography by Odyssey principal Eldon Johnson, along with sections by Ashleigh and Ryan Di Lello from So You Think You Can Dance, is a performance that is not only unique, but will also illustrate the diverse talents of the dancers.

This year’s line-up also includes two world-premiere dance numbers in Dancescapes. Brought to the stage by artistic director Derryl Yeager, the 40-minute abstract work Heap is set to the instrumental music of Imogen Heap. Following that is In the Shadow, featuring longtime Odyssey principal dancer and associate artistic director Christina Bluth, while the second act will showcase the company’s highly praised Giselle, a beautiful performance for the romantic.

Founded in 1994 by former Ballet West principal dancer Derryl Yeager, Odyssey Dance Theatre takes pride in entertaining audiences with eclectic dances that promise to offer something for everyone. Perhaps best known for its annual Thriller performance, Odyssey dancers and choreographers are some of the best in the world.
