Food MattersEvery time I second guess Bill White and surmise that he’s finally spread himself too thin by opening another restaurant, he proves me wrong. When Chimayo opened, I thought Grappa would suffer. Nope. And when he opened his store The Flying Trunk to sell much-in-demand furnishings from his restaurants, I thought he’d gone too far. I was wrong. And then a couple of years ago when he created Wahso, with its inspired fusion cuisine, I really thought White had lost it. Strike three! I was wrong again. So I’m not even going to suggest that White’s new Windy Ridge Café & Bakery will be anything other than a resounding success. If the crowds that gather there at lunchtime are any indication, White’s Midas touch is once again operating at full steam.

Fans of White’s Grappa, Chimayo and Wahso restaurants might be surprised by the Windy Ridge menu. In contrast to the complex cooking and flavors that define dishes at his other restaurants, White’s Windy Ridge Café & Bakery offers down-to-earth comfort food like mama made. Sloppy Joe and open-faced hot turkey sandwiches set the tone at Windy Ridge. And who could resist an egg salad sandwich for lunch with an order of macaroni and cheese alongside? Best of all, you won’t need to mortgage your home to dine at Windy Ridge. The white Albacore tuna salad sandwich is a mere $4.95 and includes a green salad, potato salad, French fries or onion rings.

I’m not an Olympic pin trader or collector, although I am the proud owner of a green Jell-O pin. The other pin I cherish is my Turkey Chili pin from Deer Valley Resort. Deer Valley Resort is famous for, among other things, its delectable turkey chili. And now, when shoppers spend 10 bucks or more at one of the Deer Valley Resort Signatures stores (including 625 Main Street), they’ll receive a limited edition 2002 Olympic Winter Games pin for free. What a deal!
