The Bicycle Film Festival

FRIDAY 10.2

By Jacob Stringer
Posted // September 30,2009 -

It might be true that hipsters and their beloved “fixies” (fixed gear bicycles) have lent biking some urban street cred as of late, ostensibly making the pastime cool again. But such a fad is really only a small part of a much larger picture. This fall, The Bicycle Film Festival (BFF), presented by 42Below, is bent on bringing that big picture to the masses with a touring slate of films exploring everything from the culture of bicycling to the various forms that it takes—e.g. BMX, fixed-gear, mountain, cylcocross and road.

Among the many scheduled films are documentaries such as I Love My Bicycle and Where Are You Go, the latter chronicling the filmmaker’s 7,000 mile journey via bike across Africa. Other BFF activities include a head-to-head roller sprint race to be held at Bayleaf Cafe (159 S. Main) and a closing-night party at the Jackalope Lounge (372 So. State St.) with DJ ChaseOne2.

And remember: free valet bike parking is available at all events, courtesy of the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective.
