Red Cross Gala @ Snowbasin
The fourth-annual Autumn Gourmet Gala—a scrumptious bash to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund—will be held at Snowbasin Resort (3925 E. Snowbasin Road, Huntsville, 801-620-1000, Snowbasin.com) on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The signature tasting event features many of northern Utah’s finest chefs and restaurants; this year’s participants include Bistro 258, Davis Hospital, Harley & Bucks, Jasoh!, McKay-Dee Hospital, Roosters, Tona Sushi and Zucca Trattoria. Vegan Sofritas @ Chipotle
The Salt Lake City Chipotle Mexican Grill locations are currently testing out a new vegan menu item called Sofritas. What’s Sofritas, you ask? Well, it’s shredded, non-GMO, whole-bean tofu from Hodo Soy braised with chipotle chiles, roasted poblano peppers and a blend of spices; it’s available in burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and salads. “In creating the recipe for Sofritas, we wanted to produce something that would appeal to vegetarian and vegan customers, but that was delicious enough to have crossover appeal as well,” said Chipotle founder, chairman and co-CEO Steve Ells. Fans of the döner kebab—a dish of Turkish origin featuring spit-cooked gyro-style meat—will be happy to know of the imminent opening of Spitz (35 E. Broadway, 801-839-4777). According to owners Josh Hill and Tanner Slizeski, they’ve been “dreaming about” bringing the döner kebab back to Utah, after first discovering them in Europe and following the opening of various Spitz locations in Los Angeles by childhood friend Bryce Rademan.
