For many years, I have loved eating at the Nisar family’s Curry in a Hurry restaurant (2020 S. State, 801-467-4137). What I didn’t know was that in the late ’90s, the Nisars moved to Salt Lake City from New Jersey, the land of pizza perfection. Well, on Saturday, Aug. 3, the Nisars’ Pizza in a Hurry (9651 S. State, Sandy) held its grand opening. According to Saifar Nisar, tandoori chicken pizza has long been a specialty in the Nisars’ home, and now everyone can try it, along with more traditional pizza flavors. Pizza in a Hurry is the first Utah pizzeria to serve halal meats and utilizes turkey pepperoni and ham. It’s open Monday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
If you’re a lover of Moochie’s (232 E. 800 South, 801-596-1350, MoochiesMeatballs.com) meatballs and cheesesteak sandwiches, like I am, but live or work in the southern end of the Salt Lake Valley, you’ll be thrilled to know that a second location of Moochie’s Meatballs & More has opened in Midvale, at 7725 S. State (801-562-1500). In addition to those sensational sammiches, Moochie’s also serves the best potato salad I’ve ever had, along with salads and entrees such as chicken and eggplant parmigiana, deep-dish lasagne, and spaghetti with meatballs or sausage.
Executive Chef Nathan Powers and his culinary team have launched a new Sunday brunch at Bambara restaurant, and it looks terrific. Brunch menu items range from housemade granola with berries and Greek yogurt or a cold-smoked salmon bagel with traditional garnishes, to custom-made omelets, an American Wagyu burger, a croque madame sandwich, and my favorite: buttermilk biscuits with spicy Utah elk-sausage gravy, fried egg and breakfast potatoes. On the lighter side, there’s also an egg-white scramble with roasted red peppers and fresh basil, and steamed steel-cut oats with dried cranberries.
