Valentine's Dining Roundup

Special menus for romance

For many, Valentine’s Day is the ultimate Hallmark holiday and just doesn’t matter. For others, it matters a lot. If you’re in the latter camp, you have plenty of choices for V-Day dining. You could create your own special romantic interlude at home by putting on a tux or gown and pulling out the stops with your own private, black-tie dinner. On the other hand, you could spread a blanket out on the living-room floor, pretend it’s July and enjoy a romantic picnic indoors. The possibilities are endless. Options abound for restaurant dining on Valentine’s Day, as well. Lots of eateries are offering special Valentine’s Day dinners and, because V-Day falls on a Tuesday this year, many places are getting a head start beginning the weekend before official V-Day. Here are some choices from folks who contacted me with their V-Day deals.

Park City’s new Al Dente Trattoria e Bar (136 Heber Ave., Park City, 435-200-0260, AlDenteParkCity.com) will offer a $55 prix fixe Valentine’s Day dinner featuring a choice of soups and salads, entrees—including filetto alla Piedmonte, roasted chicken with orzo and arugula, and sea bass Livornese—and dessert. The regular menu will also be available.

Chef Nathan Powers at Bambara (202 S. Main, 801-363-5454, Bambara-SLC.com) will be featuring nightly dinner specials for two from Feb. 13 to 18, and if you share a winning romantic story about Bambara or Hotel Monaco via Twitter, you could win a night’s stay at Hotel Monaco and dinner for two at Bambara. Just follow @BambaraSLC and share your story.

Cuisine Unlimited (4641 Cherry St. [440 West], 801-268-2332, CuisineUnlimited.com) will offer home-delivered V-Day dinners for two, priced from $28.50 to $32 per person, featuring items such as arugula-romaine and dried-fig salad, grilled salmon fillet with balsamic drizzle, peppered beef tenderloin, artisan rolls, grilled winter veggies, herbed mashed potatoes and more.

From Feb. 10 to 14, Faustina (454 E. 300 South, 801-746-4111, FaustinaSLC.com) chef Billy Sotelo will offer a special $50 five-course menu, along with suggested optional wine pairings, created “with love on his mind” and guaranteed to “coax the shyest diners into a romantic reverie.” Menu items include hamachi tartare, sweet-prawn ravioli, herb-crusted beef tenderloin, vanilla-bean panna cotta and more.

Fleming’s (20 S. 400 West, 801-355-3704, FlemingsSteakhouse.com) will offer a special Valentine’s Day celebration menu (along with its regular menu) from Feb. 12 to 14, and diners choosing to eat at the steakhouse on Valentine’s Day will receive a $25 Fleming’s dining card good toward a future visit at the restaurant. Special menu items include “lobster & lobster”—which is lobster tail with lobster mac & cheese—filet mignon and crab-stuffed prawns, and Prime New York strip steak and king crab. There’s also a special Valentine’s cocktail called the bella-tini.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, Grub Steak Restaurant (2093 Sidewinder Drive, Park City, 435-649-8060, GrubSteakRestaurant.com) will offer salmon Wellington with king-crab stuffing or fillet of grilled beef tenderloin with brandied peppercorn sauce for $39.75 per person. The Grub Steak Valentine’s Day menu also includes the restaurant’s notable 45-item salad bar, and a heart-shaped chocolate cake will be served especially for the holiday, as well as Grub Steak’s selection of housemade desserts.

In Eden (an appropriate place for V-Day), Harley & Buck’s (3900 N. Wolf Creek Drive, Eden, 801-745-2060, HarleyAndBucks.com) offers a Valentine’s Day dinner menu that includes shrimp ravioli, coq au vin, lobster tail, cream of asparagus soup and more. Live acoustic music will be provided by the Cheatwood Duo.

In addition to Valentine’s Day weekend dinner specials, Log Haven (6451 E. Millcreek Canyon Road, 801-272-8255, Log-Haven.com) will also feature live music with Wayne Egan at the piano from Feb. 10 to 14. Chef Dave Jones’ V-Day menu (regular menu also available) features wild-arugula salad, roasted-banana-squash soup with Maine lobster tail, grilled Rocky Mountain rack of lamb and Amano chocolate peanut-butter parfait.

Lugano Restaurant (3364 S. 2300 East, 801-412-9994, LuganoRestaurant.com) will offer a special Festa di San Valentino five-course tasting menu Feb. 14 ($59 per person), along with specially selected optional wine pairings ($39). Lugano’s regular menu will not be served on Valentine’s Day.

Oasis Cafe (151 S. 500 East, 801-322-0404, OasisCafeSLC.com) will present two options for Valentine’s Day: a three-course menu for $25, or four courses for $35. Menu items include tuna tartare, sunchoke & truffle soup, clementine salad, butter-poached king crab, pan-seared scallops with beet risotto, sea-salt filet mignon and more.

At Pago (878 S. 900 East, 801-532-0777, PagoSLC.com), Scott Evans and his crew will offer a Valentine’s Day multicourse tasting menu, ranging from pork cheeks to bison tri-tip, paired with artisan wines, cocktails and beers. The cost is $55 (plus tax and 20 percent gratuity), and menu options include Mary’s organic chicken, buckwheat crepes, Pacific oysters, cinnamon beets, desserts, starters and much more.

Chef Victoria Topham of Piñon Market & Cafe (2095 E. 1300 South, 801-582-4539, PinonMarket.com) is preparing a special Valentine’s Sweetheart Dinner for Two this year. Each take-home meal comes gift-wrapped with complete heating instructions. The cost is $65 for two adults (no single orders), and meals must be ordered by Monday, Feb.13, at 10 a.m. Menu options include creamy carrot-ginger soup, arugula-walnut salad, herb-crusted game hens, wild-mushroom strudel, house-baked rolls, triple bittersweet-chocolate cookies and white-chocolate-dipped strawberries.

At The Paris (1500 S.1500 East, 801-486-5585, TheParis.net), $74.95 per person will get you a “magnifique” Valentine’s dinner featuring live French bistro music from St. Boheme and a five-course dinner menu with choices such as Thai-spiced lump king-crab cake, lobster bisque, pan-seared fillet of Prime Black Angus beef Oscar, natural lavender-honey-glazed chicken breast, warm molten-chocolate cake and much more.

V-Day dinner specials at Red Rock Junction (1640 W. Redstone Center Drive, Park City, 435-575-0295, RedRockBrewing.com) include shrimp bisque, lobster ravioli, pepper-crusted sirloin, orange-tarragon chicken and cocktails like the first love, amaretto cranberry kiss and flowered orange.

Park City’s Wasatch Brew Pub & Brewery (250 Main, Park City, 435-649-0900, WasatchBeers.com) is offering a Valentine’s Day three-course prix fixe menu for $32.95, including items like French onion soup, shrimp-avocado cocktail, petite filet mignon, grilled Hawaiian ono and New York cheesecake.

At Yuki Arashi (586 Main, Park City, 435-649-6293, YukiArashi.com), in addition to its regular menu, Valentine’s Day specials will include freshly shucked Kumamoto oyster shooters and a pomegranate martini (Grey Goose vodka, pomegranate liquor and pomegranate juice).

So, there you go. That’s amore!
