Just because local farmers markets are on hiatus until warmer weather doesn’t mean that local and artisan culinary goodies have gone into hibernation until summer. Tony Caputo's Market & Deli has teamed up with local food artisans to create the Saturday Locavore Market. It’s a unique, off-season way for food producers to take center stage (there is no fee to participate and they keep all the profits) and for consumers to have direct contact with their favorite artisans between conventional market seasons. The Locavore Market takes place at Caputo’s downtown location (314 W. 300 South) each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors will vary from week to week, but will include artisans such as Snowy Mountain Sheep Creamery, Butcher’s Bunches, Slide Ridge Honey, Extravagonzo Oils & Vinegars, Taylor-Made Ranch organic pork and beef, Chaia Cucina soups created by chef Adam Kreisel and more. Hey There, Pilgrim
The annual authentic Pilgrim Feast at Thanksgiving Point, “Eat Like a Pilgrim,” takes place in the Show Barn on Nov. 12, 14, 19 and 21. The event transports guests to early America through authentic harvest fare, décor and ambiance, as actors from the Colonial Heritage Foundation and Alpine School District teachers portray influential figures from the era, including Governor William Bradford, William Brewster and Edward Winslow. At dinner, guests can expect a traditional pilgrim-like table setting with the option to use a spoon, a knife or hands to eat. Each place setting will have a 3-foot square napkin to place over the shoulder as a hand wipe. Items on this year’s menu include roasted turkey, roasted pork, corn pudding, stewed pumpkins and homemade bread, with mixed-berry cobbler for dessert. To complete the authenticity of the dining experience, warm goat’s milk, parched corn and hard tack will be available for tasting. Tickets are $27 for adults and $17 for kids, in advance.
