Blackout Dining, Beer & Wine Pairing Dinners, Pago New Year's Eve

Back by popular demand for this New Year’s Eve is the Blackout Dinner at the Tin Angel Café, where diners will literally be “in the dark” about some dishes. The festive dinner is four courses for $40 and $20.11 for the optional wine pairings. The first course is a choice of pincho, tapas, cup of soup or organic side salad, followed by a second course “Black Out”—a surprise that comes with a blindfold. Course No. 3 is a choice of either seared sea scallops with butternut risotto cake or Black Angus New York strip au poivre with savory sun-dried tomato bread pudding. To wrap things up, customers will choose their own dessert. Wine pairings include Root 1 Carmenere, Freixenet Cordon Negro, Cossentino Gadi Catarratto, Torremoron Duero Tinto, and De Krans Muscat Reserve. Phone 801-328-4155 for reservations.

Beer & Wine in Brighton
Silver Fork Lodge in Brighton is open throughout the holidays and will also be hosting a pair of beer and wine dinners coming up. The first, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 is a dinner with Epic beer, featuring a five-course dinner, each course paired with beers from Epic Brewing Company. On Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, Silver Fork will host a wine dinner featuring Chris O’Hearn from Young’s Market, with five dinner courses and accompanying wine pairings. Each dinner is $25 for the food and $25 for the optional wine or beer pairings. I recently attended a Silver Fork wine pairing dinner and it was both a blast and a bargain. Pago New Year’s
At Pago, Scott Evans is offering a multicourse tasting menu for New Year’s Eve. He tells me chef Mike Richey has put together an exciting menu celebrating both classics and modern cooking, with choices such as Snake River Farms tri-tip steak Oscar or Idaho pork cheeks as two of the main course options. Evans has also paired 3- or 5-ounce wine selections to accompany each dish. The price is $55 plus tax and 20 percent gratuity (wine pairings priced separately). For reservations, call 801-532-0777.

Myself and a few of my friends had the pleasure of dining at Pago for our end of the year feast and let me tell you.... I feel like my year will be better just because of it. Every dish was made to perfection. I think what made this amazing meal one I will never forget, was the wine pairing. They had a special bottle of Merlot, which is only available at Pago, called Duckhorn Decoy Merlot. It was paired with the Pork Cheeks, that seriously blew my mind! I am not a merlot gal and this glass had me melting away in my chair. It's cab-like qualities had me instantly smiling . I feel very grateful for our food crusaders like Pago. They are turning our food community into something to be proud of one plate and glass at a time!
