FRIDAY 2.20
Fire and Ice Festival

What better way to celebrate six more weeks of groundhog-imposed winter doom than to join in an art adventure inside a renovated brine-shrimpprocessing factory? Fire up the kiln and break out the ice chipper: The Fire and Ice Festival promises an exciting show with live fire and ice art. The City of the Seven Gates, the aforementioned ex-shrimp processing warehouse, has been transformed into a spacious indoor-and-outdoor art showcase. Still under construction, the threebuilding site plans to offer more than 30 spaces for artists to use as workshops, classrooms or just a supportive place to create. Classes in an assortment of fine arts from leatherworking to performance art will be available in the spring.

The two day Fire and Ice Festival celebrates the grand opening of this new and exciting art venue. Festivities include music to groove to, warm food to savor and local art for sale. The headliner event is an ice-sculpting contest (chainsaws included), where patrons can witness the ice blasting right before their eyes and later vote on their favorite icy statuaries. Along with frozen figures, there will be live fire performances.

Admission for this family-friendly event is $5 at the door. Create, partake and celebrate six more weeks of snow with frosty, fiery fun! (Kris Heitkamp)
