Best Bartender With Blog
Bartenders aren’t typically known for their prowess with the written word, but Keys on Main (242 S. Main) mixologist Benjamin Raskin is set to ink his name in that world. His blog, RaskinsRhetoric.blogspot.com, is full of interesting observations from behind the bar. For instance, read his tale of woe inspired by the cancelled Snoop Dogg show at Gallivan Center; that post is full of potent musings on rowdy crowds and creamy drinks.

Bassapalooza: W Gets Down
Durty Beatz is pumping low resonance into W Lounge (358 S. West Temple) Friday, Sept. 23, with Bassapalooza. It’s like what it sounds: plenty of bass and bootyquake. Some say the bootyquake is a lost art, but practitioners of this ancient maneuver will show you the updated version starting at 9 p.m. Hot Noise, Mstrshredder and Mama Beatz will also be spinning. The show is free before 10:30 p.m. and $5 after.

Last of the Patios
Soon, the only people left on the great patios in Utah will be the smokers—and they don’t really enjoy being snowed on, truth be told. Get out while you can before the cold snap kills summer completely. Check out the colors of fall on the East Bench at Hog Wallow (3200 E. Big Cottonwood Canyon Road). In addition to a gorgeous patio, the pub features live music Wednesday through Saturday and a great wine list.

Piper Down: Piper Poker
Though Piper Down (1492 S. State) is best known for all that comes along with being an Irish pub, the venue also features poker in the back room three nights a week. On your way to the smoking patio, grab a hand and try your luck—there could be a free bar tab in it for you. At the very least, just for fun, you can hone your card-shark skills. The action starts at 2 p.m. on Sundays and 8 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.
