Gypsy Moon Emporium, 1011 E. 900 South, holds its holiday open house Saturday, Dec. 9, noon-5 p.m.; a visitation by Celtic Santa is expected until 3 p.m. We asked emporium co-owner Rauni, who appears to have some means of communication with the Big Guy, to relay our questions:
What is a Celtic Santa? How are you different from the red-suited mall Santas?
They wear pants.
On Christmas Eve, children leave out milk and cookies for Santa. What refreshments would Celtic Santa like instead?
Well, if you don’t have any haggis about the house, shortbread and milk will do. If you left a wee dram, we might have Mrs. Claus to answer to.
I’d like to get my boyfriend a gift for Yule. What do you recommend?
A knotwork ring is a handsome thing—on the hand of your lad, ’tis a joy to be seen.
Mm-hm. And what about for the other people on my list?
Jewelry and gifts from all British Isles, for lassies and laddies, they’re sure to bring smiles.
The 9th & 9th area has undergone some changes recently. How have the changes affected your business and your day-to-day life?
It’s easier to land the sled, since the spiffy remodeling of the district. The Gypsy Moon has a roof that is as steep as the Cliffs of Mohr!
