Out of Box Artist

For this project I forced myself to separate from my current style and body of work (minus a small glimpse on the front of my box design) and allow myself to go where the “canvas” took me. In this case, a metal box.
Rejecting the box as a whole and insisting I approach each side as having a distinct viewpoint, I first saw the image of a circuit board as a monotone relationship to city life through a map of traxx schedules and stops, from there, a similar rendition of non-objective, organic shapes – breaking down the uniform structure of the prior image with both shape and color (i.e. orange equals the blending of red and yellow). Looking into city life, a few objects came to mind and I painted the graphic signs foreshortened above a fire hydrant. I saw the top as yet another separate image and connected with flowers from Utah, focusing on the seagull lily. A comic book rendering of a potato head reading the paper brought me back to the whimsical exploration I am currently undertaking.
