Rich's Mighty Fine Burgers & Grub, Wing Nutz, Back East Cheesesteak Shop

From City Weekly staffers: City Weekly’s social-media wiz Leo Dirr wants his pizza and burger on the same plate. “It’s not very often that I run around town with no pants screaming, ‘You’ve got to try this burger!’ But I recently found a downtown burger that’s good enough to make me want to do that. Introducing the Pizza Burger at Rich’s Mighty Fine Burgers & Grub (30 E. Broadway, 801-355-0667). It’s like a real freakin’ pepperoni pizza on top of your burger! I would never lie to you, freakos. With my apologies to Sir Mix-A-Lot, ‘Good lord and a quarter-pounder!’ I’m not sure of the Pizza Burger’s official size, so don’t quote me on that. But it’s more delicious than a million Mormon muffins! Don’t say I never give you any good ideas. Helllooo, Pizza Burger!”

Assistant production manager Nick Clark is a wing man: “After the long haul out to Herriman through the snow and around the South Jordan drivers, we were rewarded with take-out wings from Wing Nutz (11580 District Drive, South Jordan, 801-495-4623). They just opened way out there with about 40 different choices of wings. With flavors like Chili Garlic, Jalapeno Honey, Apricot Teriyaki and the spicy Southern Lemon Hotties, we spent most of the day focused on our moist towelettes instead of watching the football game.”

Editor Jerre Wroble’s beau found a tasty cheesesteak. She writes, “My boyfriend is from Pennsylvania, and he loves him some cheesesteak goodness. But most of what he’s tried in Salt Lake City has let him down. He’s very particular and won’t let Cheez Whiz near his cheesesteak. The gods of Philly cheesesteak must have felt sorry for him and granted his wish for a great sandwich in the form of Back East Cheesesteak Shop (1005 E. Fort Union Blvd., Midvale, 801-233-5345) in that triangle-shaped diner where Trompos Mexican Grill and a Roy Betos were located, across from the Family Center, just a few extra-long sandwich lengths from where he lives. Back East is offering the classic cheesesteak for just $5 now, but word is getting out, so plan your lunch hour accordingly. We tried out the ‘double deal’: 2 garlic cheesesteaks with fries and sodas—all done right. And yes, Ted, you can get Whiz on yours (as well as malt vinegar on your fries).”

We want you! Tell us about your interesting eats. Send reports of recent dining experiences, recipes or food-related anecdotes to tscheffler@cityweekly.net.
