I think it’s safe to say if the characters from the 1987 teen-vampire flick The Lost Boys were in town and they needed a place to sit back and kick off their combat boots, they would choose Area 51 (451 S. 400 West). Vampire references aside, no other local dance club caters to subculture more than this downtown spot. Just about every night of the week there’s a different themed party that caters to the children of the night. Thursdays are reserved for one of SLC’s best ’80s nights, every Friday is SL,UT Anthem night (Top 40 and techno) and every Saturday is reserved for Alterna-Mash (’90s industrial and alternative rock). But the flagship event is the monthly Fetish Ball, held on the last Saturday of every month, where everything from fishnets to magic underwear is acceptable. (Photos taken during Alterna-Mash)
