Affordable Housing

Building a home with your bare hands might be just the thing if you´re looking to do good and dispel your apathy at the same time. Check out a great presentation from a nonprofit that builds affordable homes on the Navajo reservation—or, why not take in a sermon at the Unitarian Church on how the financial crisis is taking a toll on the nonprofit housing sector? To keep the Sabbath really active, you also will want to swing by Main Street Plaza to catch the second “kiss-in” event—a rally where participants will show affection in solidarity with a gay couple recently detained and arrested for PDA on church property.

First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City, 569 S. 1300 East, July 19, 10 a.m., 801-582-7783, jmg@csolutions

Silent Kissing Protest
Sunday, July 19
In support of gay couple Derek Jones and Matt Aune, who were detained and cited for trespassing for hand-holding on church property, a second kiss-in protest has been organized for this Sunday. Show up with a loved one or smoochin’ buddy, gay or straight, and show a little love in the name of tolerance and fairness. Main Street Plaza, South Temple entrance, Salt Lake City, July 19, noon, contact redkenguy@gmail.com
