A Cold Slap to Cecil
Just a comment on Cecil Adams, the guy who writes the Straight Dope column. I think he is a straight dope. His answer to the question about whether cooling things to very cold temperatures can change or improve them wasn’t very good [“Low-Temp Lowdown,” Jan. 22, City Weekly]. I’m not a science pro or even a science hobbiest, but after I watched The Science of Cold on PBS last week, Cecil’s answer to the question seemed incredibly lazy and misinformed—like he just read the definition of cryogenics on Wikopedia and then misquoted the facts.
