Re: “R.I.P. Prince

I met him and sang with him at Paisley Park and yes it was everything I dreamed of and more. He was fun and sweet and selfless, as he seemed to have planned that moment for a few days. I was a member of the NPG Music Club, and being a member included a rare opportunity to go and hang out at Paisley Park for a week, see him play all 7 nights, as well as great opening acts such as Norah Jones, Shelia E, Music SoulChild and Larry Graham. We got to see Dr. Cornell West and Tavis Smiley talk during one of the many workshops he hosted, and also Femi Jiyma who did sound engineering for Prince and before that for Stevie Wonder. We saw him and his then wife Mani, in his purple prowler, hung out in the studio, in fact I met him in the annex room off of one of the studios, and was completely tongue tied when he was standing in my personal space. He just laughed alittle and walked around me (I was blocking the door). The last night though, he literally invited me up to the stage, gave me his microphone and I sang Manic Monday while he played keyboard and the NPG was my backing band! Not to bad for a girl who was born and raised in Utah! I am completely heartbroken by this loss, Because he was one of those very few people who proved that sometimes your "idols" are everything and more in person!
