Re: “King of Fire

Fixing promotional and hiring exams and using a company credit card as your own personal bank card is not the worst thing these so called leaders are guilty of.

Re: “Booked On 25th

Sweet, can't wait to come in! If possible stay open late on the first Friday art stroll each month, we love visiting and supporting the shops that do (usually just till 9pm). We live further north, so that's the only regular occasion we get down to 25th for anymore. But there's always great crowds of people for that event!

Re: “King of Fire

You few trying to put your P.C. comments on here with your real name crack me up!! "Hey everyone look at me, behind closed doors I'll bitch about all the same things that everyone is posting and act like I'm better than that on this site". Keep it real at least. You know damn well why no one will put their names on it. Because everyone is still afraid that the core group of cronies at the top from Jensen's "good ole boy club" (I.E. The Ascarte's and more) will keep the UFA tradition alive. The tradition of fucking everybody over that says something and making sure that the ones they're close with get the promotions and assignments they choose. We all know that the Ascarte kids have been spoon fed. Like the one that got a heavy rescue position, a legacy hire just so that he can get the retirement plan before it goes out just like Jensen's 18 year old kid!!! And then there's the promotions...... Do we even need to bring up what a scam our made up positions are just so their friends can be promoted? Let's look at the Dan Brown's of the world and the rest of the underlings of a certain clique shall we.... Do I think it's a disgrace that it has to happen where everyone else can see it? Yes. But do I feel like we are giving any other choice? No. You wanna talk about misuse of funds? How much would a 5 year increase because of a promotion help someone and rob someone if done the wrong twisted way that it has been going on in terms of retirement and wages? That's the real robbery that everyone is afraid will continue to happen.... Here's hoping for better days! It can't really be that much worse than a job that doesn't promote or take care of their employees based on merit!! Brotherhood... Ha what a joke. Could it be? Yes. Is it? No.

Re: “King of Fire

This has been going on for years....good old boys club "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". I am a tax paying citizen in Riverton and have complained about the tax load every year. If the money was going to the men and women that are risking their lives for me, I would never even complain, but it's not, it's padding retirements for the top brass. I agree that the day to day firefighters are good people just trying to do a good job (and do) but I believe that this is just scratching the surface.

Re: “King of Fire

The sad thing is that all firefighters from around the state that are not even part of the UFA organization will feel the effects from the corruption of the UFA administration! Its so unfair that these individuals have taken advantage of their positions and have given firefighters a black eye! There is so much pride and ownership that goes into the job of a firefighter, and all it takes is individuals like the above mentioned to ruin years and years of hard work and trust!!!!!

Re: “King of Fire

I have to agree with "exciting times" comment. The board must hire a full time Chief outside of the UFA/UFSA, I would even venture to say a national search would be wise in order to regain public trust and in order to allow the rank and file to heal. It appears that certain people were promoted extremely fast and I have to question how that happened. As I stated in my last comment the public taxpayers MUST get involved and push to end this type of corruption. We as taxpayers vote for the board members and we must band together to stop this from happening in the future. Remember WE all pay for these services and WE all have a voice as to how OUR money should be spent. The board announced that they will be doing their own external audit and I have noticed by reading the minutes this has been done in previous years, I would hope to see that a new firm is chosen to do this audit and not the same firm they have used time and time again. Again, thanks to all of those who serve honorably and with the upmost integrity! Here is to hoping that there are great changes ahead! Please be safe out there!!

Re: “King of Fire

It's more then just the legacy hire! How many of the specialists, captains, and BCs have been give the answers or leeway on their promotional process. How many spots have been "upgrade" to get someone promoted? How many have taken advantage of "their" friends list, and are now saying their hearts been with UFA, and are now ready to make changes?

We have no brotherhood! Maybe after all of this has been played out we can get back to those ways, but it's going to take hiring from outside of the agency to fill the vacancies from this mess. Jensen and Scott have created a kingdom, and put "their" people in leadership roles. These people are just like them, and no changes will be happening to the organization if they get advanced/promoted, or take on the roles of of a interm chief.

I actually don't know of many rank and file personal who trust those in the roles of AC and higher!

Re: “King of Fire

Holy cow everyone!!! As cliche as it may sound we are a brotherhood and in these rough waters we need to band together, it increases survivability and helps us to work through things better as a whole. Now don't get me wrong each and every person is warranted to express how they feel and has every right to frustrated. But we also need to remember that once we mourn we need to move on and move on in a positive way. All of us are going to be here for a long career at least 20 years. I would like to serve those years in a job I have loved since day one and will continue to love until I'm dead and gone. The best thing we can do right now as an organization, an employee and individual is show up to that fire station door ready to serve the public by responding as the consummate professional. We do that by keeping our apparatus and stations clean. Train and be good at your craft. Smile and enjoy this job and realize how blessed you are to be in this profession and plain and simple run the 911 calls. Now is the time to move forward not step backward and assume that things will remain stagnant. The only way this works is if we all do our part at our level. We are a curious animal the firefighter, we are used to and want immediate results. We hate change and but are good just making it work no matter what. Now is the time for patience and most definitely being better than we were yesterday. Some of us may feel like all is lost but I know one thing when 911 is called and the tones go off, someone needs us and we need to be there to answer that call. It's perfectly understandable and ok to be frustrated but we need each and every one of you. You are what makes this a great place to work and what makes the public believe in our profession. You are the organizations greatest asset and I commend you all for doing the job you do. Please keep up the good work and stay the course. Things will get better, I promise.

Re: “King of Fire

Sorry. But calling Ass cartes out or the legacy bullshit isn't any less classy than Ass carte himself.
The committees are extremely biased like mentioned.
Retaliation follows your entire career at UFA I have watched it and listened to it in action.
No one in their right mind would put a name on here unless you are singing praise.

The new hire legacy hire scam is well known. No matter how qualified his kid is the fact is they help each other get thier kids on when there are hundreds that are shooting for the positions equally qualified. Does that mean their kid shouldn't get a shot? No but if you are a relative of someone who acts like their shit doesn't stink maybe try twice as hard not to look like yours doesn't either.

Re: “King of Fire

99% of UFA firefighters work their asses off to protect you, the public, without regard for race, religion, or economic status. And they do so for little compensation. I started my career there, and will always be proud of my UFA brothers & sisters. Please don't let the abhorrent actions of a few tarnish the reputations of many. Hold the thieves accountable, and rally around those who have always had your back and always will. Bronson Pearson- Seattle, WA

Re: “King of Fire

We're going to get through this. I've believed since first rumor of all this that the end result will be a better and stronger UFA. This is our opportunity to purge dead weight and corruption. Let's all remind ourselves why we got into this business in the first place. Our leadership need to relflect that. The guys on the street are still committed to the othes we took an will continue to provide the service we swore to. The best thing we can do from here is get a new chief and adjust our command staff to be accountable for the positions they hold. Change isn't always bad and I consider it an honor to be a UFA Firefighter.

Re: “King of Fire

STEAVENWHEELRIGHT you're really a classy person. I'm not sure what they have or haven't done but if your idea of "fast tracked" is going through 9 months of paramedic school and having to pass the national register test then I hope everyone is fast tracked. Also you know any employee that wants to be a paramedic can be one as long as pre-reqs done. So before you start writing stuff trying to cause hate and divide us you should know your facts obviously you're out of touch and bitter and I feel sorry for you. Personal attacks when using a fake name is cowardly you should be ashamed of yourself as a man or a woman .

Re: “King of Fire

As a taxpayer after all that has went down I decided to educate myself as to what has been happening within the UFA/UFSA. I was surprised and shocked when I went to the UFA's website and started reading the monthly board minutes. I have so many questions and concerns after reading the minutes from just this year that I will only outline my top concerns, I will leave it up to you as a tax paying citizen if you would like to go out onto their website and become more informed. Before going into my concerns I would like to thank the rank and file employees for the amazing service they provide daily, 365 days a year. I hope to see improvements in the future and as a citizen I am now committed to being more engaged. It appears our public safety employees need to be compensated adequately for the dangerous jobs they all do, not just the top brass.

This is just two of my concerns as a taxpayer as taken from board meeting minutes:

March 15, 2016

Chief Jensen asked Bill Brass to explain the changes in the Purchasing Policy. Bill highlighted the following changes to the policy for the Board:

a. In section 2.3 of the policy, it explains how purchasing will be handled at the different tiered levels of 0-$9,999, $10,000-$39,999 and purchases over $40,000. For purchases under $9,999, approval will be obtained by a supervisor and then made using the UFA purchasing card or by PO. For purchases within the $10,000-$39,999 range, purchases will need to be sent out to bid through BidSync.com. Three bids will need to be obtained through this process. If three bids are unable to be obtained, three written quotes will need to be provided and will need to be approved by the chief or designee. All purchases that are over $40,000 will need to go through the RFP process prior to purchasing goods or services. This section also highlights what documentation a vendor will need to provide before being permitted to work on-site at a UFA facility.

My concern to the above are, that anyone possessing a purchasing card can spend up to $9,999.00 with ONLY a "supervisor" approval? That seems unreasonably high. As the City Weekly article stated many "Apple" products and "firearms" were purchased below this amount. That means to us, the tax payers these kinds of purchases would never hit the radar. With $9,999.00 limit can you only imagine what they could purchase without any oversight??

c. Section 2.9 all proposed budget amendments shall identify each capital asset with a value of $100,000 or more.

I can't even believe this amount.... does this really mean nothing has to be considered a capital asset unless it is OVER $100,000??

Another concern after reviewing several board minute's, is why the UFA/UFSA are treated as separate entities? It does not seem to me that they should be. I believe it was Mayor Dahle that asked this exact same question to the board, in trying to understand why they should be paying "two" salaries to management to run one organization. Unfortunately, none of the board members would answer him and instead the majority decided to approve the MOU, knowing that the top administration had violated their contracts.

I have provided the link below to the board meeting minutes. I think it is time that the taxpayers start getting involved.

Re: “King of Fire

UFA Pride, maybe you should take a hard long look at what's been going on. You say we should all unite and stop turning on each other, however, so many voices have been oppressed by people within the UFA orginazation that on open forum is needed to air out the frustrations of this group. Administrators like Scott and Jensen created this environment and their rats like Anderton (ass to mouth) and Asscarte (the only thing bigger than my ego is my waist line) have been enforcing thier will for too long. I say air the ditty laundry and call out those who have benifited from having thier heads up the Chiefs ass.
It's easy to say join a committee and participate, any many have done just that. But the culture of the super cliques, commitee selection by popularity or who's friend you are has ensured that only a select few will ever have their voices heard, for example Asscartes kids have been fast tracked to promotion and the other have been given free reign to act like a moron because of who their dad is.
