Lorrie Ann Dohoney founded the nine-member Slippery Kittens Burlesque in August of 2006. The troupe premieres “Around the World in Eighty Minutes” on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Bar Deluxe (666 S. State) at 10 p.m.

Is burlesque just a fancy word for strip-tease?
Yes and no … to some, it is one in the same. The Slippery Kittens interpret burlesque as a form of theatrical entertainment with the end result being that we entertainers up there are scantily clad.

What’s the difference between burlesque and stripping?
Strippers work in a totally different environment than we do. That is usually their full-time job, and they do it just for the money. The Slippery Kittens perform burlesque because we have a passion for the art form. We are about the choreography, costumes, persona, and, of course, keeping our audience entertained. If we make a few bucks along the way, then that is a bonus. We haven’t been able to quit our day jobs just yet, but who knows?

How did you learn the moves?
Most of us are formally trained dancers, and some of us also used to be strippers as well.

Are your outfits and hairstyles expensive?
We all do our own hair and makeup, and we all make our own costumes, props and accessories. Average cost per outfit is about $50.

What’s the Slippery Kittens lowdown?
We all get along really well for a bunch of girls. We have a resident Mormon gal who performs under the alias Mary Miss. None of us sews, but we are all graduates of Hot Glue Gun University!

Do you have to be an exhibitionist at heart to dance burlesque?
You have to be comfortable half-naked in front of a lot of people, all while remembering your moves and giving good face!
