A preview of the LGBT festival happening Saturday, Aug. 1
This weekend, Ogden will join the growing number of cities in Utah that have launched their own LGBT events by throwing their first Pride Festival. On Aug. 1, the festival will take over the Municipal Gardens & Amphitheater on Historic 25th Street for a day for performances and exhibitions, all to promote equality in Weber County and solidify another section of Utah as being LGBT-friendly and supportive.

If you wanted to get a sense for how ready a Utah audience was for The Book of Mormon, you only needed to wait until the end of the opening musical number, “Hello.” As a screen lifted to show a painted backdrop representing downtown Salt Lake City—complete with signs for Crown Burger and Zions Bank—the crowd exploded, drowning out the last several bars of the song. Our local poetry and slam scenes in SLC are going through some big changes. We're seeing some prominent names retire, some newer names rise up to be leaders, and a lot of unknown factors coming into play about whether or not we'll have a full team representing us for the next few years.
