Packed with numerous talented musicians and producers, the Provo music scene can seem vast, even though the location of all the action is relatively small. And with so many of these skilled folks collaborating and joining one another’s bands, keeping track of the who’s and where’s of the scene is a daunting prospect. To help connect the dots, Dean Cheesman—who been running the sound at Velour Live Music Gallery for six years—created an expansive and interactive “family tree” of Provo’s bands with Marcos Minond and Sam Beveridge.---

In the waving web, intriguing connections to seemingly diverse musicians can be found. Scott Wiley, producer at June Audio, acts as a central hub as he has worked with acts like Neon Trees, Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband, Fictionist, and The Moth & The Flame. And oh hey, whaddya know, Tyler Osmond from Desert Noises is related to Donnie Osmond!
“There’s something for everyone’s tastes if they look for it,” said Cheesman who is hoping that this web of connections will help other musicians realize that there is a strong music scene in Provo. “It’s also not hard to get involved,” Cheesman says. “Find people with similar interests, start a band, and get on the chart!"
