In late May Salt Lake County Mayor Ben Mcadams rolled out a diversity training program for the county's more than 3,500 employees. The effort is one that McAdams says he wanted to be proactive about to prevent any issues of discrimination before they happen. “It's a good idea to not have to wait for your Cliven Bundy moment to talk about diversity,” McAdams says.---
The anti-discrimination program was developed internally by the county, that is now in the process of using it to train its more than 3,500 employees on.
“It is too often that you respond to an incident of discrimination with sensitivity training or diversity training,” McAdams says. “Well we wanted to be out in front of it.” McAdams (pictured) says the training is cycling through county departments and facilities like recreation centers, that will receive a “badge of honor” they can hang up once they've completed the training. McAdams says the early feedback has been very positive but expects it will take the rest of the year for the entire county to complete the training.
