Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, In order to stay edgy and cool, our team at McDonald's have recently unveiled a new hipper Ronald McDonald, one who tweets, wears sport coats and takes selfies. But that's not all, stay tuned for a Grimace in skinny jeans and a Hamburglar who donates to Kickstarters. Anything happening this weekend as fun as hipster Ronald McDonald? - Donald Thompson, McDonald's CEO--- 

Donald, enough with this bullshit, just bring back the McDLT or at the very least the Arch Deluxe. Here's what's going down this weekend, starting with Friday's events:

This weekend is your last chance to see the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Leonardo. Tickets are $23.95.  

Stand-up comedian Bengt Washburn will be on the mic at Wiseguys West Valley tonight and Saturday. Each night there's a 7:30 p.m. performance as well as a 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $12. 

Local electro-rock looper Giraffula will be at Urban Lounge this evening. The North Valley, Palace Of Buddies and Uinta are also on the bill. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6.

Ad hoc blues band Swede Town Sheiks will be on stage at The Garage. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. There's a $5 cover.

SLC-based psych-rock band Dark Seas will be at Kilby Court tonight.  Breakers and Red Telephone will warm it up. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6. 


Saturday's events:  

English indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club will be at Urban Lounge this evening. Royal Canoe is also on the bill. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18.  

The Nihon Matsuri Japantown Festival will be happening all day today and Sunday. For more info click the link. 

Hip-Hop Roots SLC will be going down at Kilby Court tonight and will feature music from local rappers Highdro, Dusk, House of Lewis, Gryzzlee Beats and Omeed the Nag. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Real Salt Lake will be taking on the Vancouver Whitecaps FC today at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. 

Atlanta-based indie band Manchester Orchestra will be at In The Venue tonight. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22.

Da Mafia 6 (formerly Memphis-based rap crew, Three 6 Mafia) will be at Lo-Fi Cafe tonight. Twisted Insane, Whitney Peyton and Sozay are also performing. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15. 


Sunday's events: 

Pop-punk band Skating Polly will be at Kilby Court. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7. 

Brewvies will be showing a free screening of the latest episode of Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey. The show starts 8 p.m.

Piper Down will be hosting the popular pub trivia game Geeks Who Drink. The quizzin' starts at 7:30 p.m. and it's free!
