Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, James Taylor's performance at last night's World Series, taught us three things: The "National Anthem" is boring, it's a snoozer and it doesn't connect with today's youth. Yeah, I said it. Perhaps it's time to switch it up with a new T-Swift verse, a dubstep remix or, at the very least, throw a little "boom boom pow," in there.  Anything happening this weekend more interesting than the boring old National Anthem? Will.I.Am.---

Will, Shut up. If we're doing anything to the "National Anthem" we're mashing it up with this song. Here's what up for this weekend, starting with Friday's events:

Portland-based band Menomena & The Helio Sequence will be at Urban Lounge tonight. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $18.

Singer-songwriter and comic-book artist Jeffery Lewis will be onstage at Kilby Court this evening. Alexis Gideon and Schwervon are also on the bill. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $10. 

Bro-house DJ and producer R3HAB will be at The Depot tonight. Timone, Highjack’d, and Ross K will open things up. The show starts at 9. Tickets are $36 at the door. 


Saturday's events: 

Non-abrasive rapper Macklemore will be at The Maverik Center. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $32.50.  

The Shred Shed will be hosting Skalloween, featuring music from Show Me Island, Two and a Half White Guys, The Anchorage, The Sinisters and The Pelicants. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8. 

Widowspeak will be onstage at Urban Lounge. Pure Breathing Culture will warm things up. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10.  

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Kevin Devine will be at Kilby Court. Now, Now and Harrison Hudson are also performing. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. 

Indie-band The Neighbourhood will be at In The Venue this evening.  Ghost Loft will open up. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $18. 

Velour will be hosting The Moth and The Flame tonight. Strange Family and Swimm are also on the bill. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $10. 

Rapper Talib Kweli will be throwing down a DJ set at The Hotel. Tickets are $10. The music starts at 9 p.m.  

Ogden rapper Pat Maine is throwing a Birthday Bash at The Other End Bar & Grill. The party starts at 9 p.m. Cover is $5. 


Sunday's events:  

Two-time City Weekly DJ of the year DJ Flash and Flare will be throwing his Rooftop Rehab party at The Green Pig today at 3 p.m. Admission is free.  

The Jeanne Wagner Theatre will be hosting Of Meat & Marrow today at 4 p.m. Tickets start at $22.50. 

Tonight is Pachanga Night at Club Karamba. The music starts at 9. Admission is free.
