Dear GYA, I love Columbus Day because, like the man himself, I, too, believe that there are mountains of gold yet to be discovered, I hate looking at maps and I don't care what you say but I'm pretty sure Cubans and Asians are the same thing. Anything happening today to celebrate my favorite day of the year? Ash Olle, Park City ---

Ash, Here are a few things happening today that you can "discover" and maybe later declare as a part of Asia:

It's Salt Lake Design Week, which means a full lineup of design-centric parties, workshops and open houses. Tonight is the opening party at The State Room, starting at 6. Tickets are $15. Check their website for the full list of events.

Tonight is Film Buff Night at Brewvies. See the British zombie classic, Shaun of The Dead, for free on the big screen. The show starts at 10.

Los Angeles-based indie band Sir Sly will be onstage at Kilby Court this evening. The Chain Gang of 1974 and Bel Heir will open things up. Tickets are $12. The show starts at 8.
