Fido needs a vacation too! Many of you do (or wish you could) travel with your pets. Huntington Beach has got your back as one of the most pet friendly vacation spots around. --- Fido gets the royal treatment at most hotels and restaurants in town and the pooches even have their own beach - Huntington Dog Beach.

Though it might sound like a punchline to some, dog surfing is a sport with a rising profile. Surf City Surf Dog, held yearly in Huntington Beach, is the world's only dog surfing competition and a great weekend getaway for those with canine companions. The surfing competition is broken up by weight range, from Great Danes down to chihuahuas. All participants receive a medal, with additional prizes for the winners (and their owners). This year's event runs September 28th-30th. Opening ceremonies with a happy hour and dog fashion show (complete with a DJ and a red carpet) are Friday night, with a owner/dog look-a-like and costume contest Saturday and the surfing contest itself Sunday morning. For those not so sure their dog will fare well on a surfboard, one-on-one dog surfing lessons are available by appointment during the months leading up to the event.
