The University of Utah will host a forum Monday about the politics behind sex education in Utah schools and the role of parent-teacher associations in helping guide lawmakers on the s-e-x word at Utah’s Legislature.---
Sex education generated plenty of heat at the Legislature last year after a controversial bill by rep. Bill Wright, R-Holden, to forbid discussion of contraception in Utah schools was passed and then repealed by Gov. Gary Herbert. The birds and the bees may still be on legislators’ minds in the 2013 session, which is why this forum may be informative for folks interested in learning more about the sex-education debate and whether there’s any possibility comprehensive sex education could ever happen in Utah schools.
The forum will feature Utah Parent Teacher Association President-elect Liz Zentner and her vice president, Dawn Davies, as they talk about sex education, the Utah PTA and the Legislature.
Check it out at the University of Utah’s Hinckley Caucus, 260 S. Central Campus Drive, Monday, Sept. 10, 8 a.m.
