Stop Ski Link Hike Saturday

Posted By on August 22, 2012, 3:04 PM

Get a little hiking and activism in this weekend by joining environmental advocates for a four-mile hike to see some of the 30 acres of forest land the proposed Ski Link would develop for the sake of resort-developer-giant Talisker.---

The outing sponsored by Save Our Canyons, the Utah Sierra Club and Wasatch Mountain Club will take folks right to the heart of the controversial proposal by hiking to the area that would be affected by the proposal to create a gondola that would link Solitude and Canyons into a 6,000-acre-plus mega resort. The proposal has already gotten the vigorous thumbs up from Utah’s state and federal politicians eager for the economic boost, but activists are still gearing up for a fight in the coming year over the proposal over concerns the development will drastically affect the watershed and permanently mar some of the Wasatch range’s most pristine backcountry forever.

Now you can see for yourself what is at stake at this free guided hike. Interested participants can RSVP for the hike here with the Utah Sierra Club. Hikers are asked to bring water, sunscreen and their own lunch for the hike that will cover four miles and a roughly 600-foot elevation gain. Hikers will meet Saturday, Aug. 25, at 8 a.m. at Brighton Resort, 8302 S. Brighton Loop Road to pick up a shuttle to the trail head.
