W Lounge confirmed rumors yesterday on Facebook that it will be closing its doors, potentially by August 31, and reopening with a new name and focus.---

W Lounge is a nightclub located at 358 S. West Temple that specializes in DJs of all varieties, including weekly theme nights. It has been open for the past 10 years, but it is time for a change, says W Lounge owner Casey Staker.

Staker said that he is waiting until a meeting with the alcohol commision on August 21 to know whether the liquor license will transfer to the new location. Staker wouldn’t say where that location will be, though.

If the transfer gets approved, they will move out by the end of the month; if it takes until next month, W Lounge will stay open through mid-September. “It’s up to the city now,” Staker says.

The new, rebranded and renamed spot will focus on the culinary arts as a restaurant by day and nightclub by night. “My passion right now is food and drinks, and I don’t really have the ability to do any of that at the W Lounge,” Staker says. “And I don’t want to promote a party every night. I just need a change.” There will be a restaurant with food options and creative cocktails. However, Staker says that they will still host DJs and dance parties -- "the music is going to be pretty similar" -- each night. "What I want to do, Salt Lake kind of needs," Staker says without elaborating further.

Stay tuned for more details about the new club.

In the meantime, W Lounge will continue to operate under the same schedule, and each DJ will have a last-time-at-W-Lounge blow-out party the last week of the month (see flyer below). Staker says that if they are able to close by the end of August, there will be one final hurrah August 25 with Sector 7.
