Glad You Asked: Dinos, Plants and Falcons

Posted By on May 16, 2012, 12:00 PM

Dear GYA, You're not going to believe this but, I've been stuck in a damned board game for the past 26 years. It was awful -- I had to live in a jungle with a crazed British hunter who wanted to shoot me in the face for some unexplained reason. Now, don't worry, I'm not gonna sue anybody -- we're good. So, now that I'm back, anything happening that doesn't involve murderous Europeans? - Alan Parrish---

Allan, I'm glad you're in good spirits about this whole thing. You know, I played a game once that ruined my life, to; it was called Chat Roulette. Anyways, here's what's going down today:

The Minnesota indie rockers Dinosaur Feathers will be playing at Urban Lounge tonight. Inspired by '50s and early '60s pop music, the duo just released their sophomore album Whistle TipsCity Weekly Music Editor Austen Diamond thinks they're swell. Whispertown and Margot & The Nuclear So & Sos are also on the bill.

The "post-classic rock" trio Plants and Animals will be playing an all-ages show this evening at Kilby Court. Coming off their 2012 album The End of That, the Canadian natives have seen some recent momentum lately, working with members of Arcade Fire, and their track Bye Bye Bye was featured on an episode of the hit television show Chuck. Check it out below:

Here's your chance to find out what makes falcons so rad. If you love birds, than check out Fantastic Falcons today at the Ogden Nature Center. An American Kestrel named Jetta will be on hand, plus take a short hike with a naturalist to learn how to spot signs of falcons in the wild. Find out what makes these birds of prey so darn awesome! The birding starts at 3:30 p.m.

Other worthwhile events today:

- Learn how to fix your own bike at Wasatch Touring's free bike maintenance class tonight at 6:30 p.m.

- Powerball Karaoke tonight at Allure. The singing starts at 9 p.m.

- The Secret Garden is live onstage at the Hale Center Theatre Orem. The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m.
